Their review of SATC2 is unfavorable, and they make many good points about why the movie is flat out dumb. But in the introduction to the review, they talk about this:
It makes for an interesting read and interesting thinking. I find their comments about the assumption in several reviews that a woman who has any desire to see SATC2 must be “vapid and shallow” to ring true. A shitty escapist movie, to coin their term, is a shitty escapist movie, no matter whether it is geared toward men or women, and it should either be considered a reflection on the audience or not a reflection on the audience—not a little of both.

I had a fairly long post typed up in response, but didn’t exactly like where it was going. So instead, I will ask you one of the most complicated questions around: Do you consider Sex and the City 2 art? And if you do, do you respect the art?

I love debating shit like this, from either vantage point, and have a lot of thoughts on the topic.

Ms. Novissar would be so proud.

Oh, and I am actually somewhat likely to see Sex and the City 2 at some point in the intermediate future since they go to “Abu Dhabi” (actually a laughably bad imitation in Morocco) where I lived for nine months. My thoughts on why four American women would choose to go to Abu Dhabi is completely another post…
